We know artwork can sound a bit technical, but don’t worry, we’re here to make it simple!
When we ask for vector artwork, we’re not trying to make things complicated. It’s just the best way to make sure your logo looks sharp, accurate and professional on your merchandise.
Most pictures you find online (like JPGs or PNGs) are made up of thousands of tiny coloured squares called pixels. When you zoom in or make them bigger, those pixels stretch, and the image starts to look fuzzy or blurry. That’s fine for websites and social media, but not ideal for printing your logo on products where it needs to look perfect at any size.
Vector artwork is completely different. Instead of pixels, it’s made from shapes, lines and points that are drawn using maths (clever stuff, we know!). This means a vector file can be resized to any size, from a tiny pen print to a huge banner, and it will always stay crisp and clear.
Vector files usually end in .ai, .eps, .pdf, or .svg.
It’s really important to know that simply opening a JPG or PNG and clicking “Save As .SVG or .EPS” doesn’t make it vector artwork. That just changes the file name, not the way it’s built. To make a true vector, the artwork needs to be properly redrawn or created in design software such as Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW.
Another big advantage of vector artwork is flexibility. Because each element is separate, we can easily change the colour of individual parts of your logo, for example if we need to make it white for printing on a dark mug or tweak a colour to match a particular product. That’s something we can’t do with a flat image like a JPG.
In short:
➡️ JPG/PNG = pixels (good for screens)
➡️ Vector = shapes (perfect for printing)
If you’re not sure whether your logo is vector artwork, don’t worry, just send it over and we’ll check for you. If it isn’t, we can usually recreate it as a proper vector file so it’s ready for print. This is a service we offer for a small charge.
At Chilli Promotional Products, we like to make the process easy, clear and stress-free so you can focus on the fun part: choosing great merch!
